#ASSAY OF CHLORPROMAZINE

Image
Aim: To report the amount of chlorpromazine present in the given tablet/powder/solution . Apparatus : Burettes, pipettes, beakers, glass rod, funnel etc. Chemicals : Perchloric acid, acetone, mercuric acetate solution, chlorpromazine drug PHP(Potasium hydrogen Phthalate) Principle:            Assay of Chlorpromazine comes under non aqueous titration. In this assay the perchloric acid reacts with acetic acid and forms acetonium ion. Chlorpromazine in acetic acid acts as a base and accept a proton from acetonium ion and forms protonated chlorpromazine and acetic acid. The addition of mercuric acetate in the non-aqueous titrimetric method is based on the principle of removing the chloride counter ion so as to prevent the interference of the halide ion released by the titrant (acetous perchloric acid). The addition of mercuric acetate (which is undissociated in acetic acid) replaces the halide ion in chlorpromazine with a...

#ASSAY OF ATROPINE

Image
Aim :  To report the amount of atropine present in the given tablet/powder/solution . Materials:  Burettes, pipettes, beakers, glassrod, funneletc Chemicals:  Perchloricacid, glacial acetic acid, PHP, Atropine sulphate Principle:             Assay of Atropine comes under non aqueous titration. Weak bases are dissolved in acetic acid and titrated with perchloricacid. Acetic acid which is frequently used as a solvent for titration of basic substances in non-aqueous titration. When strong acid like perchloric acid dissolve in acetic acid combines with protons donated by perchloricacid to form acetonium ion. Atropine in acetic acid exerts leveling effect and enhance basic property, accept a proton from acetonium ion forms protonated atropine and acetic acid. Crystal violet is used as an indicator. Procedure: Standardization of 0.1M Perchloric acid Place 0.02 gm of PHP in 100ml conical ...

#PREPARATION OF 4-BENZYLIDENE-2-PHENYL OXAZOLE-5-ONE#

Image
Aim: To prepare and submit the pure product of 4-Benzylidine-2-Phenyl oxazole-5-one Apparatus: Round bottomed flask, Condenser, Water bath, Beaker, Funnel, Glass rod Chemicals: Benzaldehyde, Benzyl glycine, Sodium hydroxide, Acetic acid, Ethanol . Principle: Principle involved in the preparation of 4-Benzylidine-2-Phenyl oxazole-5-one is dehydration followed by cyclization method. The active methylene group react with aromatic aldehydes, Benzyl glycine reacts with benzaldehyde followed by dehydration gives 4-Benzylidine-2-Phenyl oxazole-5-one. Mechanism: Procedure: Take 3.25ml of   Benzaldehyde 5.5g of Benzyl glycine 19.5g NaOH, 2.5ml of Acetic acid in 100ml round bottom flask. Heat the reaction mixture in hot plate with a occasional stirring until the solid mixture convert to liquid.   Remove the flask & heat the mixture by using reflux condenser& add 12.2ml of   Ethanol carefully ...

SYNTHESIS OF 1,3-PYRAZOLE (ANTIPYRINE)#

Image
Aim: To prepare and submit Antipyrine from given quantity of Ethyl acetoacetate. Apparatus: Round bottomed flask, Condenser, Water bath, Beaker, Funnel, Glass rod Chemicals: Ethyl acetoacetate, Phenyl hydrazine, Diethyl ether. Principle: The reaction principle involves condensation between phenyl hydrazine and ethyl aceto acetate at 100 0 C for 2 hours followed by cyclization and dehydration. Antipyrine reduces pain and fever in migraines and chronic rheumatism. Antipyrine is obtained upon methylation of 3-Methyl-1-phenyl-5-pyrazolone with dimethylsulphate in alkaline medium. Reaction: Procedure:   Step-1  A mixture of ethyl aceto acetate (4.9ml) and phenyl hydrazine (3.65ml) was heated in a 100 ml RBF for 2hrs with continuous stirring. The reaction mixture was allowed to cool and 20 ml of diethyl ether was added to it with continuous stirring. The separated product was washed with water and recry...

PREPARATION OF BARBITURATE

Image
Aim: To prepare and submit the pure product of barbiturate from diethylmalonate. Apparatus: Round bottomed flask, Condenser, Water bath, Beaker, Funnel, Glass rod Chemicals: Diethyl malonate, urea, absolute ethanol Principle:                Barbituric acid or malonylurea or 6-hydroxyuracil is an organic compound based on a pyrimidine heterocyclic skeleton. It is an odourless powder soluble in water. Barbituric acid is the parent compound of barbiturate drugs, although barbituric acid itself is not pharmacologically active. The compound was discovered by the German chemist Adolf von Baeyer on December 4, 1864, the feast of Saint Barbara (who gave the compound its namesake), by combining urea and malonic acid in a condensation reaction. Malonic acid has since been replaced by diethyl malonate,as using the ester avoids the problem of having to deal with the acidity of the carboxylic acid and its unreactive carb...
